Emily Marie Chandler, a resident of Dorset, passed away peacefully on Sunday January 14, 2018, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness. She was 103 years old. The daughter of Albert H. and Marie (Deshons) Chandler, Emily was born in Brooklyn on December 10, 1914, where she grew up. She attended local schools, graduating from Girls High School. Afterwards she attended Secretarial School. She relocated to Vermont in 1948, where she lived for almost 70 years. She became a care provider for many in the Manchester/Dorset area. And for many years, Emily was a volunteer at the Equinox Terrace where she had many friends; it is there that she spent her later years as a resident. Emily was fond of classical music and became an accomplished piano player. She enjoyed traveling, bridge, and knitting; she was very social and enjoyed visiting with others. Her faith was significant, sustaining, and a boon to many; over a period of 7 years she gave brief homilies at the Good Friday service held annually at the Dorset Church. She had many ways of showing her thoughtful consideration and caring of others. She leaves her brother Henry "Harry" Chandler of Dorset, her nieces and nephews Henry and Robin Chandler of Dorset, David and Janet Chandler of Dorset, Stephen Chandler of Urbandale, Iowa, William and Julie Chandler of Westport, CT, and Jennifer and Terry Davies of Portland, ME. She also leaves a number of great nieces and nephews and cousins. A Celebration of Emily's life will be held at the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert on March 10, at 11:00 a.m. There will be no calling hours. Burial will take place in the family lot in Maple Hill Cemetery in the spring.
