Adelbert G. Capen, 76, of Bennington, VT passed away July 10, 2021 at his home. Adelbert was born October 5, 1944 in Bondville, VT, son of Adelbert A. Capen (whom he was named after) and Florence Maria Crandall. A family member nicknamed him Joe shortly after his birth and ever since then, very few people actually knew him as anyone other than Joe. Joe was fiercely loyal to his family. You could always count on him to come to your aid in any situation. He was the source of many of our wildest family stories and loved to tell tall tales, making us laugh until we cried. He was a lover of the natural world. He found peace in fishing, rabbit hunting, watching the deer play, walking in the woods and sitting by a stream. He loved Vermont and was proud to be a native Vermonter. Joe also served his country as a Marine and was deployed to the Bay of Pigs during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Joe was a lover of motorcycles and loved the freedom of the road. He built his own chopper and rode it with pride. He would often stop to talk with other bikers and admire their Harleys. Joe lived and breathed to ride. Just two weeks before he passed away he took a ride up over Woodford Mountain. Now he has taken his last ride off into the sunset with his wife Donna, who predeceased him. Joe was deeply loved and will be honored and missed by his family. Ride like the wind Joe! Joe is survived by his siblings Catherine H Gibson (Jim), Donald L. Capen (Sherry), Nancy P Bill (Jon), David A. Capen (Liz), his children Adelbert George Capen Jr and family, Christina Marie Curry and family, Jeanette Renea Leach and family, Dolores Ann McFaggen and family, Geney Skipper and family, Kaineen Joel Anderson (Mike),Eli Georg Capen (Beverly), Zeno King Capen (Amber), as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Linda M. Capen. At the request of the family, services for Joe will be private.
