Alden “Michael” Lachant passed away peacefully at his home on March 15 following a long illness. Michael was born in Bennington Vermont on June 27, 1953 to the late Audrey Fienberg and Joseph Lachant. He was a lifelong resident of Bennington, graduating from Bennington High School in 1971. He attended Johnson State College and Lyndon State College where he studied business. He subsequently joined Fienberg Store, the family business which he later co-owned and operated with his mother. Following the closing of Fienberg’s, Michael transitioned from retail to realty, establishing Lachant Realty LLC, allowing him to remain active in supporting local business.
Michael enjoyed meeting and talking with people. He was a long time member of Southern Vermont Amateur Radio Club (SOVARC), communicating with numerous other ham radio enthusiasts all over the world. Above all, Michael loved enjoying the simple pleasures of life; spending time with family and friends, making people laugh, and of course testing his luck at the casino. Michael is survived by his wife of 45 years, Laurie Lachant, his daughter Lindsay Lachant and her husband Scott Smith and their children: Isla, Poppy, Lucy, and Salem; a daughter Kimberly (Lachant) Brooks and her husband Kelly Brooks, a daughter Carly Lachant, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents Audrey and Joseph Lachant, and brother, Dr. Neil Lachant. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to cancer research in Michael’s honor.
