Allan Russell Bartlett, 79, died on Saturday, October 24, peacefully at his home in Whitingham. Mr.Bartlett was born June 16, 1936, on the farm he grew up on in Whitingham. The old homestead is now the Hobby House Farm near Town Hill. His parents were Carl Wesley Bartlett and F. Margorie McRae Bartlett.Mr. Bartlett spent many hours on Sundays with his equipment improving the Town Hill ball field even though he did not play ball, he only wanted to make it better for others to enjoy. His love was for everyone. His community and friends were a large part of his energy which pushed him beyond what many people could do.Mr. Bartlett served in the US Army. He also belonged to the E-Z Rider Snowmobile club as a charter member. He served as president, vise president, and tail twister, along with many committees of Halifax - Whitingham Lions Club. There are so many committees he served on, for the community which he loved. He also did much work for the Deerfield Valley Sportsman Club. He was a member of the Champlain Valley Blue Grass Association, Jacksonville Community Church , Whitingham-Jacksonville Lions Club and American Legion Post #17 Mr. Bartlett loved Blue Grass and old time country music. His home was a place for Blue Grass parties, Bartlett family reunions, and a few Russell family reunions. He loved playing and singing at the request of many nursing homes, churches, and other celebrations. He loved telling jokes to get people in a light hearted mood. Spending time travelling with his wife Laura was something he always loved to do. His family was always on his mind. Mr. Bartlett was a man of his word, and deep faith in his Savior, his belief in Christ being the creator of love.In earlier years he had operated a service station in Jacksonville, in 1966 he started his excavation business , retiring in 2007.Mr. Bartlett is survived by his wife of 53 years, Laura Mallory Bartlett, of March 25, 1962. He is also survived by his sister, Edith Washburn, of Jacksonville; son, Allen John Bartlett and wife, Sandy; daughters, Cheryl Boyd and husband, Eric; Betty and husband, Scott Christie; Diane and husband, Loren Ryan. Grandchildren, Justin and wife, Stephanie Bartlett; Allen Jr. and wife, Tabitha Bartlett; Charles and Kayla Bartlett; Terri and husband, William Gilbeau; Jesse and wife, Virginia Boyd; Tommy and wife Rebecca Christi; Carol and husband, Ean Grimes, of St. Albans; DJ Pike and Amber Pike; step grandchildren, Brandon and wife, Lisa Ryan; Wade and wife, Amanda Ryan; Andrew and wife, Erika Massari, Kathleen and Nancy Massari. His seed of life continues with great-grandchildren Zachary, Nicholas, Samantha, Taylor, Morgan, David, Wyatt, Violet, and Cheyenne. He is preceded in death by his brothers Stuart and Francis Bartlett; and three grandchildren, William Allen, Katrina Louise, and Andy George Andersen.In celebration of his life, there will be visiting hours at the Covey Allen & Shea Funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 7 pm. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 28 at 11 am at the Jacksonville Community Church at Route 112, Jacksonville. Burial with military honors will be held in the spring. Son-in-law Scott Christie will help with Doug LaPlante will lead the ceremony. The music selections are in his grandsons DJ guidance. Mr. Bartlett was a man of his word to the end.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to his family through the Covey Allen & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 215, Wilmington, VT 05363 or they ask you to bring a mum to the service which will be planted in his honor in the spring. In celebration of his life, there will be visiting hours at the Covey, Allen, & Shea Funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 7 pm. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 28 at 11 am at the Jacksonville Community Church at Route 112, Jacksonville. Burial with military honors will be held in the spring
