Allan J. Mears, born Steven Allen Newell, in St. Johnsbury, VT on September 1, 1948, passed away at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by family on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the age of 69. He was a graduate of Arlington High School where he played on the basketball and soccer teams, he was also a member of the high school band . Following High School he went on to barber school and then the New England Culinary Institute. For many years he owned "Styles of Distinction" hair salon in Manchester which included new styles for ladies. He was a talented guitar player and was a member of the band "Ridge Runners". He was a fun-loving guy who enjoyed his Indianapolis Colts, Detroit Red Wings, Jeff Gordon, and watching high school and college sports. He enjoyed the outdoors to the fullest. He loved to hunt, fish, go boating, and gather sap to make maple syrup. His favorite family traditions revolved around Nascar and cooking. You could always count on a delicious meal for Sunday dinner and the holidays. He and his family were yearly visitors to New Hampshire Motor Speedway, and more recently, Richmond Motor Speedway, with his long-time companion Brenda Redford of Whitehall, NY. He leaves behind his mother, Sue DeMarsico of North Bennington, VT, 4 children, Kimberly Mears of Jacksonville, TX, Allan J. Mears II, of Colorado, Justin Mears of Poultney, VT, and Amy Mears of Wells, VT, future son in law Reginald Watson of Whitehall , NY as well as 8 grandchildren, an aunt, cousins, and many, many friends. He will be greatly missed, but always remembered for his funny, always-ready-for-a-good-time personality. Funeral services will be held on Friday February 23 at 11am at St. James Episcopal Church in Arlington , burial will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family requests that any donations be made in honor of his memory to either The Wounded Warriors Project or The Jeff Gordon Foundation in care of the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 528, Arlington, VT 05250. Funeral services will be held on Friday February 23 at 11am at St. James Episcopal Church in Arlington , burial will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery.
