Andrew E. "Andy" Dequasie, 86, a resident of Oak Drive in Pownal, VT passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. The son of Arthur and Helen (McManus) Dequasie, he was born in Sewickley, PA on December 31, 1929. He graduated from Leetsdale High School at the age of 16 and continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at age 20. Following college, he entered the workforce, but was called upon to serve the US Army during the Korean War. After his discharge, he began working in Malta, NY and later moved to Niagara Falls, NY where he met his wife Clara Ciraolo. They married on November 28, 1959 in Niagara Falls. Andy spent the majority of his career as a chemical engineer at Sprague Electric at both the North Adams, MA and Barre, VT locations. He loved nature and enjoyed searching for arrowheads, hiking, spending time in the woods, and taking photographs. He enjoyed spending evenings playing cards with his family. He loved reading and writing and had authored several books. He also liked working on projects around his home and yard.He leaves his wife Clara of Pownal, VT; children Linda O'Neill of Pownal, VT, David Dequasie of Winter Springs, FL, Diane Noury of Glocester, RI, and Arthur Dequasie of Burlington, VT; grandchildren Katelyn O'Neill, Joshua and Tyler Noury; brother Harry Dequasie of Alabama, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Rose Ellen Russell.A gathering to honor Andy's life will be held at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home on Thursday, March 24 from 5:30 to 7:30.
