Anita L. Werner, age 95, died on January 6, 2017. She was born November 25, 1921 in the Bronx, NY, the only child of John and Florence Koster. She was educated in the New York City schools, and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Queens College. She was a homemaker, and later an early childhood teacher for twenty years.Anita married Edward Werner in June of 1944, and raised her family in North Bellmore, NY. In 1985, upon retiring, she moved to Arlington, Vermont to be near her son John and his family. Anita was active in community affairs. She was a volunteer at the Martha Canfield Library and served on the library board from 1988 until 2000. She was one of the founders of the Arlington Food Shelf and served a term as president in the early 1990's. She was an active member of St James Episcopal Church and sang in the church choir for many years.Anita loved classical music, especially opera, and served on the board of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra at one time. She was an accomplished knitter and donated many caps for cancer patients and infant sets for babies.Anita was predeceased by her husband Edward and a son William. Survivors include her son John and his wife Judy with whom she resided for many years, three grandchildren, John Kenneth Werner and his wife Navya of Orinda, CA, Jordan Werner and fiance Kevin Barry of Brooklyn, NY and Victoria McGuinn and her husband Ken of Tampa, FL. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Nishil and Keya, of Orinda, CA, and her niece Margaret of Clayton, NC. Memorial services for Anita will be held Saturday January 28, 2017 at 11am at St. James Episcopal Church in Arlington. Interment will be private. There are no visiting hours. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Martha Canfield Library, c/o Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home Arlington Chapel P.O. Box 528 Arlington, VT 05250 Memorial services for Anita will be held Saturday January 28, 2017 at 11am at St. James Episcopal Church in Arlington. Interment will be private. There are no visiting hours.
