Ann Prendergast Vreeland, age 79, most recently of Rutland, Vermont, died on April 22, 2025, after a prolonged illness.
Ann was born in 1945 in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, where she also spent her formative years. She graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Downtown Brooklyn in 1963. Starting in 1965, she was employed at Western Electric in Manhattan’s Financial District, until moving to New Jersey in 1970.
During the 1980s, in New Jersey, Ann worked for the News Transcript in Freehold. In 1989, she earned an associate’s degree in art history from Brookdale Community College in Lincroft. For much of the 1990s, Ann was employed by Hanson Industries in Iselin. She retired to Vermont in 2000.
In her free time, Ann enjoyed reading, watching British mysteries, baking, and collecting antiques. Ann was also an active member of her previous community, regularly volunteering for the local public library in Rutland.
Ann is survived by her daughter Susan Vreeland and son-in-law, Richard Franco, of Houston, Texas; and her daughter Amy Vreeland, of New York City. Ann was predeceased by both of her parents, her two brothers, and her ex-husband and friend, Paul Vreeland. Ann was the proud cat mother to Rocky, Jake, and Diesel, among others. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
