Arthur R. Barber

Arthur R. Barber, 71, a resident of County Street, passed away February 1, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. A lifelong resident,  Art was born in Bennington on June 5, 1953 the son of the late Raymond J. and Pauline (Pratt) Barber. He attended Bennington schools including Mt. Anthony Union High School. In his earlier years Art worked at the Benmont Paper Mill and for most of his working career he worked in tree service with his brothers Willard and Richard. Art served his country as a member of the United States Army during Viet-Nam. He was a member of the Eagles Club in Bennington and former member of the American Legion Post 13 in Bennington. He loved hunting and fishing, playing softball, following college basketball, especially Duke University, was a huge New York Yankee baseball fan and enjoyed listening to old country music. Art was a very private person who enjoyed his home and being with his family. Art is survived by his children Matthew Stratton (Chelsea) of Bennington, Heidi Stratton (Seth King) of Bennington, Nicole Barber (Jason Knapp) of Bennington, step daughters Billi Granger (Josh), Bobbi Bolster and Jessica Kaulfuss (David), adopted children Ricky Hastings of White Creek, NY, Grace Schaffer (D.J.) of Shaftsbury Hollow and Barb Barber of Shaftsbury, siblings Nancy Prouty, Willard Barber (Tina), Richard Barber (Nanc), Sharron Burgess (Mark Dickinson) and David Barber all of Bennington, grandchildren McKenna Telford and Brody Stratton, many adopted grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his adopted son Artie J. Barber and siblings Pauline Dickinson, Raymond Barber, Mark Barber, Pamela Baker and Michael Barber. A celebration of life for Art will be held Friday February 7, 2025 at 2pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, VT. A visiting hour at the funeral home will be held Friday February 7, 2025 from 1-2pm, one hour prior to the service. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Art’s memory may be made to the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Cancer Patient Resource Fund, c/o Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home P.O. Box 957 Bennington, VT 05201.
