Austin Plumb, 89, a resident of Whitingham, passed away January 7, 2017 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Austin was born in Whitingham on November 29, 1927 the son of the late Grover and Agnes(Shippee) Plumb and attended Whitingham schools. Austin was a truck driver for both the Towns of Wilmington and Whitingham and also drove a truck for Al Davis. He also worked as a plumber for Carl Stone, in his earlier years worked for New England Box Company and security for New England Power. Austin also owned and operated the Sunoco Station on Route 100 for many years. He was WWII Navy Veteran, a founding member of the Whitnigham Ambulance Service, enjoyed bowling, woodworking, horseshoes and hunting. He enjoyed taking short walks and spending time with his family. Austin is survived by his daughters Teresa Oakes (Dennis) of Whitingham and Tammi Butler (Kenneth) of Jacksonville, daughter-in-law Thelma Plumb, grandchildren Travis Oakes, Rebecca Longe, Tracey Gamache, Leslie Plumb, Charles Cashatt, Amber Holland and James Cashatt, ten great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Gloria who passed away October 11, 1999 and his son Wayne Plumb who died August 16, 2012. Funeral services for Austin will be held Friday January 13, 2017 at 12:30pm at the Community Church of Whitingham. Interment will be private. Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening January 12, 2017 from 5-7pm at Covey-Allen & Shea Funeral Home 44 East Main Street Wilmington, VT. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Austin's memory may be made to the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center Patient Resource Fund, c/o Covey-Allen & Shea Funeral Home P.O. Box 215 Wilmington, VT 05363. Funeral services for Austin will be held Friday January 13, 2017 at 12:30pm at the Community Church of Whitingham. Interment will be private. Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening January 12, 2017 from 5-7pm at Covey-Allen & Shea Funeral Home 44 East Main Street Wilmington, VT.
