Barbara A. Meerwarth, 83 a resident of Silver Street passed away at her home on Friday evening May 26, 2017. The daughter of Forrest and Gladys (Cushman) Burdick, she was born in Hoosick Falls on January 25, 1934, she attended local schools there and was a graduate of Hoosick Falls High School. Ms. Meerwarth had worked on the family farm in White Creek, The Bennington Airport, Pownal Race Track (Security), CB Sports, Brock Security, and at Weston Haddon as a nurse's aid from which she retired. She enjoyed flying with her former husband John and was a charter member of the Vermont Flying Farmers, she had also enjoyed horseback riding and snowmobiling. In later years she enjoyed knitting and donating her crafts to area organizations, also completing jigsaw puzzles and she had always been an avid reader. She was a die-hard Yankee fan not missing a televised game. She leaves her son John "Jack" Meerwarth Jr. and his wife Paula McAndrews Meerwarth of White Creek, daughter Joyce DiGennaro and her husband James C. DiGennaro Sr. of Bennington, a special niece Judy Brownell and husband Jeff of Eagle Bridge, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter Barbara Jean Austin in April 2016, her former husband John Meerwarth Sr. in February 2016, brother Forrest Burdick Jr. in 1993 and sister Arlene Brownell in 1984. Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 3 at 10:30 am at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Fobes officiating, a time of visitation will be held from 10 to 10:30. Burial will take place in Park Lawn Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to The Bennington Rescue Squad, Second Chance Animal Center in care of Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington. Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 3 at 10:30 am at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Fobes officiating, a time of visitation will be held from 10 to 10:30. Burial will take place in Park Lawn Cemetery.
