Beatrice Jane “Bea” (Herrick) Mattison, 96, passed away this morning, Jan. 23, 2024 at The Center For Living And Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt. She was the wife of the late Gerald Gardner Mattison, Sr. who passed away on May 15, 2014.
Bea was born on Aug. 21, 1927, in Pittsfield, Ma., the daughter of Ralph J. and Angeline B. (Coulter) Herrick. She graduated from North Bennington High School. Bea was employed by Stanley Tools in Shaftsbury, Vt., for most of her working life and for nine years by the Shaftsbury U. S. Post Office. Bea was a life-time member of the Shaftsbury United Methodist Church, the Shaftsbury Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and the Bennington Club where she enjoyed dancing the night away with her husband, Jerry. Bea liked sewing and knitting and she especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family. She also liked watching the TV show General Hospital. Throughout her life, Bea was a kind caregiver to many of her family members. She loved to laugh!
Survivors include her children, Gerald G. (Debbie) Mattison, Jr., Neil R. (Dana) Mattison; grandchildren, Gerald L. (Lisa) Mattison, Owen N. (Sara) Mattison; great-grandchildren, Jordan Mattison and Sloane Mattison; nieces, Charlene R. (Morin) Mahlmann and Donna S. (Carnagey) Gay; nephews, Daryl A. Wetherell, Francis L. Morin, Stephen D. Paulin and Robert A. Paulin. Bea was predeceased by her father and mother; sisters, Ruth E. (Herrick) Wetherell, Ardella B. (Herrick) Morin and Marion B. (Herrick) Carnagey; one brother, Arthur E. Paulin; niece Shirley A. (Morin) Hall; nephews, Richard J. Morin and William W. Carnagey.
At Bea’s request, there will be no services at this time. There will be a small graveside service for family members at the Center Shaftsbury Cemetery in the coming spring.
