Bernard R. Mayer, 85, a resident of Swan Way, and formerly of Tudor Road in Sandgate, VT, passed away April 14, 2015 at his home. Bernard was born in Orwell, VT on June 20, 1929 the son of Frederick and Aline (Quinville) Mayer and attended local schools. He worked as a printer at various local businesses for many years. He was a member of the Bennington Moose Lodge, the Benni-Rooster Squares and Square Dance club.He loved hunting, fishing, raising animals and camping. He was an avid horseman and a longtime member of Southern Vermont Stock horse Association. Bernie loved his horse Banner and rode him for many years in the Bennington Battle Day Parade.Bernie is survived by his wife, the former Christine Sweet of Queensbury and formerly of Sandgate whom he married July 30, 1983 in Sandgate. His children; Michael (Debra), Danny (Sandy), Curt, Roxanne Hover (Tony), Christopher, Nick (Larry), Michele Hurley (Steve), Jennifer Trexler (Bobby), and Tim (Cathy). Brothers and sisters; Andre, Robert, Maurice, Denise Griffis, Lillian Wilcox (Bill), Margaret Boggs, Alice Slade, Rita Callorio and Linda Becket. He has many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers; Freddy, Roland, Henry and Florian : his sisters Irene Sweet and Lorraine Mayer; as well as his daughter Suzanne Peters, grandsons Timothy Mayer Jr., Thomas Mayer, and great grand-daughter Shelby Paligo.Services for Bernard were held Friday, April 17, 2015 at 4 p.m. at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, Arlington Chapel, Historic Route 7A. Interment will be at a later date. Funeral services for Bernard will be held Friday April 17, 2015 at 4pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home Arlington Chapel Historic Route 7A. Interment will be at a later date. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Friday April 17, 2015 from 2-4pm prior to the service.
