Bertha Frances Akley, also known as Jimmy, 95, formerly of Readsboro, VT, passed away Friday June 3, 2022 at Pine Heights in Brattleboro. Bertha was born in Marlboro, VT on February 8, 1927 the daughter of the late Bertram F Akley and Marion H. Pool. Bertha graduated from 8th grade in a one room school house called "Winchester School" on Higley Hill Road in Marlboro, VT on May 29 1942, then from Wilmington Vermont High School in June 1946. Bertha worked at Halifax Electric company in Brattleboro for 6 years, Holden and Martin Lumber Company in Brattleboro for 6 years and Dewitt Beverage in Brattleboro for over 20 years. She cared for her mother until she went into a nursing home and then babysitting and caring for children of Tom and Candy Simon and Tim and Kathy Whitney. She enjoyed attending Jacksonville Senior Meals, genealogy, being in the woods, watching animals, walking, crocheting, knitting sweaters and poetry. Bertha is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her 4 siblings; Mary Brown, Mildred Akley, Ruth Davis and Grace Crowningshield. Graveside services in Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington will be private.
