Brian E. Palmiter

The world said goodbye to Brian E. Palmiter, 77, of Wilmington, VT. on July 12, 2016. After a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease, he passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 1, 1939 in Bouckville, New York. He was the son of the late Robert Harley Palmiter and Valerae King Palmiter, brother to surviving Ruth Palmiter Neidhardt of Meredith, NH. Growing up in what is now known as the historic Landmark Tavern in Bouckville, New York., He followed in his father's footsteps to become a distinguished antique and fine arts dealer, proprietor of a thriving auction business, Palmiter Auction Gallery, of Waterville, New York. During this era, Brian co-founded the Madison-Bouckville Antique Show- which has become the largest outdoor antique show in NY state. Brian was also the manager of W.T Grants in Poughkeepsie, NY in the early 60's. After a few years in Anchorage Alaska, working as a real estate broker, he and family returned to the Northeast to develop the Greensprings Townhomes at Mount Snow. Shortly thereafter, Brian, along with ex-wife Arlene Palmiter, founded Palmiter Realty Group in 1986. Brian's success in real estate set the stage for him to pursue his longtime passion for land development and custom home building, establishing Castle Hill Construction of Dover, VT. In addition to his love for real estate and "wheeling and dealing", Brian had many other passions, often found boating on Lake Whitingham, fishing waters from Vermont to Cape Cod, bike riding around town, walking with his black lab, flying his sea plane, combing the Catskills for Dutch Shultz's buried treasure, playing tennis, enjoying the local fare offered at Dots Restaurant, C&S Diner, and Anchor Seafood Restaurant or listening to the musical talents of Skip and Laraine Morrow. Not a lover of the snow, Brian particularly enjoyed vacationing to Sanibel Island and Captiva, FL. Brian has been acknowledged by many who knew him as a "class act", known for his entrepreneurial spirit, quick wit, generous acts, humor, and very strong will. A devoted father and brother, he enjoyed being in the company of those he loved above all. Brian is survived by his five children- Bradley Palmiter and wife, Colleen Palmiter of Staatsburg, NY. Stephen Palmiter and wife Victoria Palmiter of Oakridge, TN., Sarah Palmiter of Myrtle Beach, SC., Hannah Palmiter Rosinski and husband, Russell Rosinski of Vernon, VT. and Adam Palmiter and wife, Ashley Palmiter of Wilmington, VT. Brian leaves seven grandchildren Aaron & Jordan Palmiter, Cassidy Copley Tate, Keelin, Talia and Elsie Rosinski, and Harper Palmiter. Brian has one great grandchild. Brian is also survived by his nephew Brian Neidhardt and wife Amanda Neidhardt of Tilton, NH and niece Amy Gregorie and husband, Steven Gregorie Bow, NH., his sister's children. Services honoring Palmiter will be held on Sunday, August 7th2016 with calling hours from 12:00-1 pm at Covey-Allen and Shea Funeral Home, Wilmington, VT, and a memorial service to follow at Riverview Cemetery, Stowe Hill Rd. Wilmington, VT. at 1:30pm.
