C. Larry Collingwood

d. March 2, 2017

Charles Lawrence Collingwood II "Larry", 76, a resident of Our House in Rutland and formerly of East Dorset, passed away March 2, 2017. He was born in Natrona Heights PA Dec. 22, 1940, the son of Charles Lawrence Collingwood and Myrtle E. (Bash) Collingwood. Larry spent his childhood in Shanksville, PA with his brother Bill and his sister, Sally. Larry spoke often of growing up on his family farm, taking care of livestock and riding. After graduating high school in 1958, Larry headed to Penn State where he received an Associate's Degree in Land Surveying. After college, Larry worked for American Air Surveys, travelling across the Eastern United States, doing aerial mapping projects. Upon leaving this position, Larry married Marion Shugar, with whom he had his beloved daughter Victoria. Larry continued to advance his career working on major highway projects in CT and NY, and as a railroad surveyor in Ohio, and later settled in Maryland where he worked in Washington DC and the surrounding area. During this time, the Vietnam War was in full swing and Larry enlisted in the Army Reserves as an x-ray technician and was honorably discharged in 1972. He and his family spent many weekends skiing in Vermont. With a love of skiing and wanting to leave the city, the Collingwoods moved to Manchester in 1977. During this time, Larry was Chief of Surveys for Dufresne Henry, Inc., ACI and EDL Associates. After several years of marriage Larry and Marion divorced. In 1990 Larry married Pat Meredith with whom he shared 27 loving years. Larry and Pat shared numerous interests including ski patrol at Stratton Mountain, attending music festivals, traveling, and enjoying the company of their beloved Viszlas Murphy and George. Together they created and operated Collingwood & Meredith PC a successful land surveying company in East Dorset. Larry's other passions included hunting, building, or fixing "anything" and gardening. He loved travelling in his Airstream to trap shooting events on weekends and longer trips between ski and surveying season. Active in the community, Larry was a Hunter Safety Instructor, a member of the Adoniram Lodge #42 F. & A.M., Lion's Club, Stratton Ski Patrol, National Ski Patrol, Vermont Society of Land Surveyors, Hale Mountain Rod & Gun Club, and Manchester Rod & Gun Club. Larry touched the lives and hearts of many through his friendship, career contributions and service to the community.
