Carl Edwin Hedman II, 80, a resident of Dorset, VT passed away on May 7th 2024 following a lengthy illness.
Carl was born in Columbus, Ohio on February 17th, 1944 to the late June E. Jacobus and Carl E. Hedman. He attended high school in Cornwall on Hudson, New York and graduated from the University of North Dakota, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity, with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Carl spent over 20 years in management at Kaiser Aluminum in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. He moved to Vermont in 1987 and served as Plant Manager of Triangle Wire and Cable in Bennington, Vermont. In his later years, he enjoyed meeting and helping people at Shearer Honda in Rutland, Vermont where he worked as a salesperson.
Carl was an active member of the Barrington Congregational Church in Rhode Island and the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert in Vermont. In Barrington Carl enjoyed playing golf in the Kaiser golf league and coaching Little League Baseball. He loved to go quahauging in the cove at the end of his road. After moving to Vermont Carl spent many Wednesdays and Saturdays building houses with Bennington County Habitat for Humanity. Spending time with his boys, and in later years with his grandchildren, was what he most enjoyed. One of his favorite memories was Fishing on Lake Winnepausaukee with Eric and Gary when they were young. He most definitely inherited some farming genes from his early Swedish ancestors who migrated to North Dakota to farm, and he was forever in quest of the perfect tomato. He played cribbage with anyone who was willing and when he first moved to Vermont you would find him on Bromley Mountain whenever there was snow.
His family will remember Carl as a devoted, faithful and loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be acutely missed.
Carl is survived by his wife, Sandra McClarran Hedman, of Dorset, Vermont, his two sons, Carl Eric Hedman, of Fairfield, Connecticut and Gary William Thomas Hedman and his wife Stacey Foster, of Londonderry, Vermont, his sister, Laurie J. Hedman, of Chicago, Illinois and his brother, Gary R. Hedman, of Commerce City, Colorado. He also leaves Eric’s 3 children, McKenna S. Hedman, Emily M. Hedman, and Jake T. Hedman.
Services for Carl will be private. Should friends or family desire, memorial contributions in honor of Carl may be made to Northshire Rescue or VNA and Hospice of the Southwest Region C/O Brewster Shea Funeral Service, P.O. Box 885 Manchester, Vermont 05255
