Carol Dunn Shehadi passed away at home in Pawlet, Vermont on Thursday, July 5th. Bolstered by the devotion and care of her beloved husband and family, and a team of compassionate and dedicated caregivers, Carol was able to live out her final days surrounded by love and beauty. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, Carol was the eldest child of Francis Prahm and Catherine Collins Dunn. She graduated from Benedictine Academy in 1952, and graduated from Caldwell College for Women in 1956 with a B.A. in English, where she was known for her sense of humor and intelligence. Carol then taught English at the junior high school level. After meeting at the Jersey Shore, Carol married Fred S. Shehadi Jr. Together they raised five children, three sons and two daughters. The family lived in New Jersey and Vermont. The family eventually grew to include 15 grandchildren. Carol and Fred made it their priority to provide plentiful opportunities over the years to gather and have fun together, resulting in the close and loving family we cherish today. Carol had an intelligence, grace, and sense of beauty that was evident in all areas of her life. She was a voracious reader, often found with a book or working on a crossword puzzle or knitting something for someone she loved. She always had a warm smile, a thoughtful comment, or a witty remark. Wherever Carol and Fred were living, Carol always found a place to volunteer her time. Some of her favorite places over the years were Youth Haven and the White Elephant , Naples, Florida and The Southern Vermont Art Center, Manchester, Vermont. Carol had great fun and spent countless hours cheering on the athletic accomplishments of her active family. A member of the Dorset Field Club in Dorset, Vermont, and the Royal Poinciana Golf Club in Naples, Florida, Carol enjoyed her group of "9 Holers," and the camaraderie of her fellow players.
