Claire E. Crane, 88, a resident of Equinox Terrace, passed away April 27, 2016 surrounded by her family. Claire was born in Jamaica, Long Island on December 13, 1927, the daughter of the late Vincent J. and Claire (nee Monterosso) Lenzo. She received her education in Jamaica, Long Island schools, graduating from Richmond Hill High school and attending Hofstra University. Claire worked as an assistant office supervisor for MetLife and sold Avon products for twenty six years where she earned Presidents Club status each and every year. She was a member of R.S.V.P., the Sassies in Arlington and was a former Treasurer of Go Getters. Claire was founder and Queen Mother of the Red Hat Society - Arlington Chapter. A member of Christ Our Savior Parish (St Margaret Mary in Arlington and later, St. Paul in Manchester Center), she also belonged to the Sodality of St. Margaret Mary as well as Catholic Daughters. She was a former member of Care Net in Bennington, reaching out to expectant and new mothers in crisis, and volunteered at the Martha Canfield Library at the volunteer desk and "book tent" sales. She was a former artist, and a member of the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester Center. Travel, reading, painting, music and gardening were some of her many interests. Claire is survived by her husband Hal of Manchester whom she married a wonderful (and wonder filled) 60 years ago in Rockville Centre, Long Island on November 26, 1955. She is survived too by daughter Elena Cannata and her husband Joe of Johns Creek, GA, son David Crane and his wife Mary Jean of Huntington, Long Island, grandchildren Jamieson and Rachel Cannata, Gene Crane and Charity Astarita as well as ten beautiful great grandchildren. A liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated Wednesday afternoon May 4, 2016 at 2pm at Christ Our Savior Parish(St. Paul Catholic Church) in Manchester Center. Interment will be private. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday May 3, 2016 from 5-7pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home Arlington Chapel, Historic Route 7A, Arlington, VT. Memorial gifts may be made in Claire's memory to Care Net Pregnancy Center or Martha Canfield Library c/o Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home Arlington Chapel P.O. Box 528 Arlington, VT 05250.
