Clara M. Prouty, 86, a resident of Melendy Hill Road, passed away Friday March 31, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. Clara was born in Pikes Falls Jamaica, VT on December 1, 1930 the daughter of the late Merrill Stark and Lillian Kuusela. She attended local school and graduated from Leland & Gray Seminary. In her earlier years Clara worked as a housekeeper at Lowell Lake Lodge in Londonderry, worked as an operator for the phone company and later owned and operated the family business (Clyde R. Prouty & Sons Excavating) with husband Clyde. She enjoyed traveling and following Blue Grass music and NASCAR with Clyde. She enjoyed playing cards and working on crossword puzzles, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Susan Pare' Van Alstyne of South Londonderry, brother George Kuusela, sister Helen Peck, grandchildren Chad, Taylor, Lynn, Gary, Jr., Stacy, Chris, Reginald and Brittney and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Clyde R. Prouty, sons Steven G. Prouty, Gary L. Prouty and Douglas C. Prouty, and son-in-law Pete Van Alstyne, brother Lenny Kuusela and sisters Lillian Abbott and Ruth Lauren. Memorial services for Clara will be held Saturday April 29, 2017 at 11am at the Londonderry Town Hall. Interment will be private. There are no visiting hours. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Clara's memory may be made to the Londonderry Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Clyde & Clara Prouty Community Service Scholarship Fund - Established for Londonderry Students exemplifying pride and hard work within the community - c/o Brewster-Shea Funeral Home P.O. Box 885 Manchester Center, VT 05255. Memorial services for Clara will be held Saturday April 29, 2017 at 11am at the Londonderry Town Hall. Interment will be private. There are no visiting hours
