Dana F. Dix

Dana F. Dix, 73, a resident of Route 100, passed away February 8, 2023 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. Dana was born in North Adams, Massachusetts on August 16, 1949 the son of the late Frank Jasper and Geneva Malah (Bernard) Dix and attended local schools. In his earlier years, Dana worked for Francis Bartlett before and after enlisting in the Coast Guard. He then started his own business in 1986, Dana Dix Builders. Dana was very civically and community active. He was the former Forrest Fire Warden, Commander of the American Legion, Chief for 8 years for the Whitingham Fire Department, Town Constable, member of the Whitingham Zoning Board, Select Board and Cemetery Commissioner. He was on the Old Home Week Committee, in charge of fireworks and the parade, the main organizer for Maple Fest, designed the club patch for the EZ Riders snowmobile club and was a boating safety instructor. Dana was also an EMT and Officer with the Whitingham Ambulance Service. Most of all, Dana enjoyed sugaring, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, playing horseshoes, dominoes and spending time with his family at his camp in Morgan, VT. He enjoyed taking cruises to the Caribbean and embarked on a cruise to Alaska for his 25th wedding anniversary. Dana is survived by his wife Shirley LeMaire Dix of Whitingham whom he married April 19, 1975 in Readsboro, VT. Their children Sheldon Dix, and his significant other Kristen Breeden of Jacksonville, VT. Maureen Dix and her significant other Jason Tobey of Wilmington, VT. Brothers, Robert Dix and his wife Cindy of The Villages, in Florida, Gary Dix and his significant other Jane Price of Whitingham. Grandchildren Tyler, Callie, Sara, William and Beau, his great grandson Tyler Jr. and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by brothers Richard, Frank, Douglas, and his nephew Richard. A celebration of life for Dana will be held Friday February 17, 2023 from 4-6pm at Covey-Allen & Shea Funeral Home 44 East Main Street Wilmington, VT. Graveside funeral services for Dana will be held Saturday April 29, 2023 at 11am in Sadawga Cemetery in Whitingham.
