David H. “Poppy” Armstrong, 80, a resident of Crossover Road, passed away November 6, 2023 at Berkshire Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Bennington, David was born on December 17, 1942 the son of the late Hollis and Hazel (Douglass) Armstrong. He attended Bennington schools, graduating from Bennington High School. Upon graduation, David served in the National Guard for 8 years. David worked as a machinist for Bijur Lubricating Company for over 30 years. He enjoyed going to hunting camp and in his earlier years hunting and spending time with his sons. David was looked up to by the boys in the neighborhood gang for the many times hanging out with them in their own field of dreams baseball field he created. He was a mentor and instrumental part of the kids on that street as they grew up. He enjoyed fishing in his younger years and loved his John Deere tractor taking pride in mowing his property. He loved watching western movies, was an avid New England Patriots fan and cherished times spent with his his family. David is survived by his wife Phyllis (Stratton) Armstrong of Bennington whom he married in Bennington on February 23, 1963, his sons Timothy David Armstrong (Teri) and Theodore S. Armstrong, both of Bennington, sisters Hope Leonard (Toby) and June Coyne both of Bennington, grandchildren Kelsey Whitman (Patrick) and Katelyn Hafner (Ed) both of Rhode Island and Corey Armstrong and his fiancé Emily of New York and Haley Armstrong of Hoosick Falls and his great granddaughter Emma Hafner. Funeral services for David will be held Monday November 13, 2023 at 11am at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, VT. Interment will follow in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
