David William Mooney, passed away peacefully at his home in Manchester Friday morning, February 6th. He was born in Rochester, NY on February 3rd, 1930, the son of John Oliver and Marie MacDonald Mooney. Dave attended Florida Military Academy and graduated from Lakemont Academy and Hobart College, where he met his wife of 62 years, Shane Fitzpatrick. He was a US Navy veteran and was proud of his service as a naval officer at the US Submarine base in New London, CT. Dave married Shane Marie Fitzpatrick on June 27, 1953 in Queens, New York.After the Navy, Dave settled in Westchester, NY where he became President of the John O. Mooney Company, a steel and copper plate engraving firm, based in Fleetwood, NY and New York City, at the Waldorf Astoria. Founded by his father, John Oliver Mooney, the Mooney Company provided generations of brides and customers with hand engraved wedding invitations, Christmas cards and fine social stationary. Dave and Shane raised their children in Purchase, New York and began a family love of skiing at Stratton in the late 60's. Vermont has always played a special part in their lives. Dave was a member of the Stratton Mountain Country Club and he enjoyed playing golf and skiing at Stratton with many lifelong family friends. He enjoyed his family summer vacations on Fire Island where he delighted in telling scary ghost stories that have been passed down through generations. As a young man, Dave was a fine equestrian and he encouraged his daughters in their passion for horses. He was also a member of the Wild Geese Society, an Irish cultural organization, and a lifelong New York Giants fan. Dave had a terrific sense of humor and was well known for his colorful and distinctive fashion flair. He loved life and took enormous pleasure in his family. Dave is survived by his wife Shane, daughter Kimet Hand and her husband John of Manchester; son David Mooney, Jr and his wife Nina also of Manchester; daughter Megan Gordon and her husband Michael of Manchester, MA; and daughter Tarra Ferrone and her husband Willie of Dorset. "Bumpa" is also survived by loving grandchildren Sarah Wilde; Kitt Laidlaw; Colin, Chase and Shane Gordon; Galen and Liam Mooney; and Piper and Ryder Ferrone. Dave cherished his great-grand daughter, Malin Wilde who brought him much joy. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and close friends and wonderful caregivers at Equinox Village. He was pre-deceased by his sister Peggy Wittbold; and brothers Tom and Jack Mooney. A funeral Mass will be held at 1 pm at Christ our Savior (St. Paul's) Church on 398 Bonnet Street in Manchester on Wednesday, February 11th.
