Donald G. Rogers, born May 30, 1922 in Middletown Springs, VT to Frank. F. and Jessie (Gardner) Rogers, passed away June 28, 2018 at his home. Educated in the Middletown Springs school system, after graduation in 1940, enrolled in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In 1943 Donald entered the U.S. Army where he served in the Corps of Engineers in New Guinea and the Philippines. Following military service he returned to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he obtained a bachelor degree and master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He was elected to membership in honorary societies, Sigma Xi and Tau Beta Pi. After graduation in 1950 he took a position with Sprague Electric Company in North Adams, MA as a research engineer. He worked for Sprague as a process and product engineer where he held seven U.S. Patents until retirement in 1986. He lived in Pownal, VT from 1950 until 1998 at which time he moved to Bennington. On April 6, 1950 he married Helen Louise Wetherby who survives him. He is also survived by 5 children, daughter Jean Rogers of Woodford, VT, son Richard Rogers and his wife Mary of Pownal, son Miles Rogers of Pownal, daughter Gayle Rogers of Pownal and son Geoffrey Rogers of Hinsdale, Ma, 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Harold Wisell. Donald served two terms as director of the Mount Anthony Union High School representing Pownal from 1966-1971. After retiring from Sprague he volunteered for RSVP as an income tax aide and the Bennington Museum Library. Donald enjoyed hunting, gardening and travel. Graveside funeral services for Donald will be held Friday July 6, 2018 at 1pm in the family lot in Pleasant View Cemetery in Middletown Springs followed by a gathering at St. Anne's church. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Donald's memory may be made to the Middletown Springs Historical Society, c/o Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home P.O. Box 957 Bennington, VT 05201. The family would like to extend a thank you to BAYADA and VNA Hospice for the wonderful care given to Donald. Graveside funeral services for Donald will be held Friday July 6, 2018 at 1pm in the family lot in Pleasant View Cemetery in Middletown Springs followed by a gathering at St. Anne's church. There are no visiting hours.
