Doris Ruth Streeter

January 19, 1930 — January 20, 2022

In the early evening hours of January 20, 2022, Dottie quietly slipped away after a short illness. Doris Ruth Streeter was born to Vaughn Whitney and Gladys Billings on January 19,1930 in Middlebury, Vermont being the fifth born off eight children. After Dottie's mothers death, Audrey, the oldest sister took on the responsibility of raising five sisters, Gwen being in school and the one brother, Vern went to live with an uncle. Dottie spoke of hard times and good times growing up with all those sisters. Graduating from Castleton Teachers College in 1950, Dottie took a teaching assignment in Dorset. While teaching in Dorset, Dottie met her future husband, Robert Streeter. They were married on August 30, 1952, and the adventure began. They built their house in Dorset and a camp in Kirby Vermont. Dottie took a few years off from teaching after the birth of their son Keith in 1957, returning to teaching in 1965 at the Sunderland elementary school where she taught second and third grade, was principal, and Vermont Teacher of the Year retiring in 1992.After retiring from teaching, she enjoyed traveling with her sisters and group travels: She became a member of the Dorset Church where she enjoyed being a part of the Hospitality Committee. She also volunteered at the Dorset Historical Society and for Northshire Seniors. Dottie was also a WCAX Super Senior. She enjoyed snowmobiling with Robert and friends, playing cards, knitting, sewing doll clothes, reading and her daily walks around town. Family reunions at the home in Dorset were a highlight. She always enjoyed Linda O'Leary's meals and trips to various stores and restaurants. Monthly teachers' lunch with Sandy and Ellen were always highlighted on her calendar. Surviving Dottie are her son, Keith (Geri), granddaughter Callie (Shawn), step granddaughters Connie and Jeanette, step great granddaughter Marie, sisters Rita Loungo, and Joyce Tift, sister-in-law Alice Guarino, along with many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by her husband Robert, son Allen, brother Vern, sisters Audrey, Gwen, Theim, and Barb. The family would like to thank the staff at Equinox Terrace and Southwest Medical Center for their support over the last months. No funeral service will be held at this time and there will be a gathering in the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dorset Historical Society and/or the Northshire Ambulance Service.
