Dorothea M. DePalo, 83, a resident of Maple Hill Lane, passed away September 17, 2019 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center surrounded by her family. Dorothea was born in Queens, NY on April 29, 1936, the daughter of the late Walter and Else Lehr Haug. She attended Long Island College of Nursing and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Caldwell College. Dorothea worked as a registered nurse early in her career. She was an active member of her community and enjoyed volunteering for local organizations that serve others. She was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting, sewing and baking. She loved the opera, classical music and all things German. Her true passion was spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She had many talents and interests and brought her kind heart and gentle spirit to all she knew. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Michael DePalo of Whitingham, whom she married September 12, 1959 in New York, her children Michael DePalo also of Whitingham, Victoria Zimmon of Groton, Massachusetts, Stephanie DiGiacopo and her husband Gottardo of Mahwah, NJ and Alisa Jarski and her husband Stephen of Westwood, NJ, her sister Ingeborg DiGiacomo and her husband Rudy of Rockaway, NJ and her grandchildren Devin, Else, Carl, Will, Annalise, Kayla and Ryan. She also leaves her six nieces and eight nephews. A celebration of Dorothea’s life will take place Saturday October 12th at 1pm at the Jacksonville Community Church VT. Interment will be private.
