Mrs. Dorothy M. Davis, passed away at her home on Old Harbour Road on Tuesday January 12, 2016 surrounded by her loving family, she was 92 and the oldest resident in the Town of Woodford. The daughter of Clyde Carl and Adelia (O'Brien) Sherman she was born in Searsburg on November 20, 1923, she received her education in Searsburg and Bennington High School, where she excelled in academics allowing her to graduate two years early. Dorothy married George Davis in Searsburg in November 1938, together they raised a family of eight children and owned a successful excavating business. George died August 14, 1994. In addition to raising her eight children and helping raise her many grandchildren, Dorothy had worked at Thompsons Manufacturing, Union Carbide, BROC , for her husband George Davis and Sons Excavating and lastly, in her sons George and Jim's offices. For Dorothy, she had two main focuses in her life-her family which she adored and her commitment to being a Jehovah's Witness . With her strong faith in God and love of children, she devoted much of her time to helping others through cooking, personal care and assisting anyone in need. She leaves her sons Gene Davis of Tampa, FL, George and wife Diane Davis of Woodford and James Davis of Arlington, daughters Christine Strzesak of Woodford, Annette Magnusson and husband Al of Manchester Center, Anita Gorski of Woodford and Priscilla Davis-Judson and husband Ron of Woodford, 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Wayne Davis and Scott Sydney and brother Clyde Carl Sherman Jr. Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 16 at 1pm at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the family lot in Woodford Cemetery. Following the burial services, the family invites everyone to join them at the Willow Road Firehouse for a memorial reception. Friends may call at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8pm when the family will be present. Memorial gifts may be made to Bennington area VNA & Hospice in care of the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201. Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 16 at 1pm at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the family lot in Woodford Cemetery. Following the burial services, the family invites everyone to join them at the Willow Road Firehouse for a memorial reception. Friends may call at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8pm when the family will be present.
