Dorothy Bush Dewey, age 95, of Bennington, passed away on September 29, 2015 at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT .She was born in Malone, New York on July 11, 1920, and was the daughter of the late Robert W. Bush and Jane Hurlburt Bush. Dorothy graduated from Franklin Academy in Malone and then worked in the Franklin Academy office. She later worked as a secretary to the President of Paul Smiths' College where she met her husband the late Robert B. Dewey of Bennington, Vermont. During World War II she worked at the Massena airport and took flying lessons, which was something she enjoyed very much. Her husband became an officer in the Army Air Force and she then traveled around the country with him.Dorothy enjoyed reading, writing poetry, walking in the woods, shopping and bowling; but most of all, she enjoyed visiting with her family.Mrs. Dewey is predeceased in death by her husband Robert B. Dewey and son Rodney Dewey. Those left to cherish her memory are six children, Sandra Sullivan of East Greenbush, NY, Bradford Dewey of Tampa, FL, Edward Dewey of Bennington, VT, Deborah Kiernan of Slate Hill, NY, Robert Dewey of Bennington, VT and Julia Kraus of Westfield, MA. She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. At Mrs. Dewey's request there will be no calling hours. A private family service will be held at Park Lawn Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Second Chance Animal Center in memory of Dorothy B. Dewey, c/o Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 213 Bennington, VT 05201. At Mrs. Dewey's request there will be no calling hours. A private family service will be held at Park Lawn Cemetery.
