Dorothy Stroffoleno Manning passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on June 5, 2024 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
Dorothy, known to many as Dot, was born at the Putnam Memorial Hospital on February 23, 1931 to Ozanna (Paro) and James Stroffoleno. One of 13 children, Dorothy grew up in Arlington, attended school in the Arlington school district, and later raised her own children in Arlington: Melissa Davis, Melinda (RJ) Vosburgh, Mike (Kathleen) Hill, and Mark (Rachel) Hill. She loved her children, her grandchildren John and Kayla, Willy and Krystle, Jessica, Jeremie, Jason, and Jacinda, and Jazmine and Jacob, and her 16 great grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Mary Miner, 103.
Dorothy loved animals (especially her dogs), playing cards, cooking, and baking. While she loved baking all kinds of things, she was best known for her incredible baked beans and doughnuts. She shared this love of feeding people, passing down recipes and teaching her kids and grandkids her secrets in the kitchen - this often included a lot of butter, but always included lots of patience and love.
She worked in the hospitality industry for most of her life, including the Green Mountain Diner, the Iron Kettle, and the Terrace Restaurant.
Dorothy spent many years living in Punta Gorda, Florida where she had many friends, including ducks who would visit her every morning, pecking at her door to be fed breakfast.
Dorothy spent the last few years of her life living in Manchester, Vermont, coming home to her roots. In this time, she loved having visitors to her apartment, and still at the age of 93 would try to feed you before you left. She will be remembered for her impeccably done up hair, her love for beautiful cars, her joy for her family, and the smell of delicious food cooking in the kitchen.
A graveside service will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Arlington at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dorothy’s name can be made to the Northshire Rescue Squad in Manchester or the Second Chance Animal Shelter in Arlington.
