Dorothy Skwirut

d. February 4, 2018

Dorothy Skwirut died in her home of natural causes on Sunday February 4th, 2018. Mrs. Skwirut was born June 28, 1941 in Hartford, CT to Anthony and Stacia Swider. She graduated from Ellsworth High in 1959 and took a job at CT Bank and Trust. Eventually she left the bank to pursue the sun and ski circuit from Cape Cod to Vermont. Working as a waitress, she spent time between seasons travelling to California and Europe. In 1969 while working at the Haystack ski lodge, she met her husband Frederick Skwirut. She and Fred were married at Saint Margaret Mary Church of South Windsor and became full time Vermont residents. Mrs. Skwirut continued to work as a waitress at local establishments such as Tito and Kay's, Andirons, Sitzmark and Anchor Seafood. Somewhere in between the shifts she took the time to raise three children. She will be sorrowfully missed by her daughter Stacey Skwirut along with Will Hurley, her son Adam Skwirut along with Beth Nichols, daughter-in-law Belle Skwirut, and Dotty's surviving husband, Fred. Dotty took every opportunity to provide for her family and grandchildren, Hayden, Lincoln, Haleiah, Daltyn, and Oliver. She filled their lives with cheer and celebration and delighted in sharing the small pleasures of life with them while either at home or participating in local events. Those who knew her at home will keep up the feeding of her birds and the tending of her extensive arboretum. Dotty is also survived by her sister Joanne, her brother, California Bob, and sister Linda Rotolo of Wilmington. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law Charles Rotolo her parents, her son, Fred John Skwirut JR and her brother Anthony Swider. Dotty was known by many in the Valley for her kind gestures and her live-it-up attitude. Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Tuesday February 13th at 11AM followed by coffee and light refreshments in the Church hall. Later this year, when the air is inviting, warm, and friendly, there will be a committal. Per Dotty's wishes there will also be a memorial celebration to include all her endearing friends. Donations can be made in her name to Deerfield Valley Rescue in care of the Covey Allen & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 215 , Wilmington, VT 05363.
