Dorothy T. "Dottie" Brophy, loving wife, mother and grandmother, 81, a resident of East View Lane passed away peacefully Saturday, May 2, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. Dottie was born in Bridport, VT on October 29, 1933 the daughter of the late Willard and Edith (Niles) Thompson. She attended Manchester schools and graduated salutatorian from Burr & Burton Seminary in 1951. She played the trumpet as a teenager and was chosen to play in the Vermont All State Band. In her earlier years, Dottie worked for the Ford Garage in Manchester and then worked as office secretary for the Town of Manchester and acted as Interim Town Manager for several months. In 1967 with her husband Harvey, they opened Harvey Brophy Electric where Dottie was Vice President, Manager and Bookkeeper. Dottie was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, local Chapter 22, where she was Worthy Matron for several terms as well as holding the position of Worthy Grand Matron for Vermont and later Grand Representative of Vermont in which she traveled throughout the entire country and Canada. She was President of the Home Board which aids people in need. As a devoted mother, Dottie was a former Girl Scout leader and enjoyed coaching softball. She loved to read and scrap book family photographs. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family at camp on Lake St. Catherine. She cherished times spent with her family especially traveling to follow her children and grandchildren participating in sporting events. She never missed an event. Her love and spirit will be carried on through her surviving husband Harvey V. Brophy of East Dorset whom she married May 2, 1959, her daughters Debbie Brophy-Antonez and her husband John of East Dorset, Shari Williams and her husband Garrett of Sunderland, Julie Parker and her husband Ben, Jr. and Peggy Brockett and her husband Dan both of Manchester, grandchildren Chris and Jessica Antonez, Brittany and Caitlin Parker and Brianna and Hailey Brockett. She was preceded in death by her brother Moe Thompson who died October 2012. Funeral services for Dottie will be held Monday May 11, 2015 at 1pm at the First Baptist Church in Manchester. Interment will follow in the family lot in South Village Cemetery in East Dorset. Visiting hours will be held Sunday afternoon from 3-5pm at the Masonic Temple at 148 Spruce Street in Manchester Center.
