Dorothy/Dora Polatsek left her body 11 September in Bennington, Vermont with her daughter Annie holding her hand. She had a long and fruitful 98 years and will be celebrated on 11-11 at 11 am at the Unitarian Meeting House on School St. Come join us for food, music and visual history. Please bring your anecdotes and quotes. Dorothy/Dora started out her life in McKeesport, Pennsylvania and traveled to the University of Michigan to start an independent life based in English language and literature. She married Robert D. Polatsek in Celeveland, Ohio and spent most of her working life in retail and public relations in Chicago, always interested in marketing and style. She took up running 6k races in her '50's and yoga shortly thereafter. A long-time Bennington resident, Dorothy was an avid yogini at the Yoga Place (recently switching to chair yoga) and aqua-aerobicist at the Rec center. Knitting, gourmet cooking & baking cookies, opera, film, and literature kept her mind and fingers active. She was willing to try new things of any dimension and always wanted to be in the forefront of innovations. Dorothy was an active member of AAUW, the Manchester Shambala Meditation group and the Unitarian Universalist fellowship. She was able to live in her own house until the end, maintaining independence, curiosity, and her indomitable fierce spirit. There will be no services held at this time
