Durwood A. Fisher, a lifelong resident of Manchester Center, passed away at his home on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the age of 90. Durwood was born in Manchester on October 17, 1925 to Earl H. and Flossie (Babbitt) Fisher. Durwood attended school in Manchester and graduated from Burr & Burton Seminary in 1943. He grew up working on the family farm. Durwood served in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict. He later worked as a crane operator in New Orleans and spent time in Florida, where he helped to build the road to the Keys. Durwood then operated Earl H. Fisher and Son Excavating Business for over 50 years. He also owned and operated a local coal business. Durwood was a former member and treasurer of the Odd Fellows. He loved hunting, fishing, and gardening. Durwood enjoyed country music and western movies, and was an avid Red Sox fan. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.Durwood is survived by his son Timothy Fisher and his wife Denise of Rupert, daughters Bambi Meadow of Liberty, NY and Penny Simmers and her husband Billy of Manchester Center; grandchildren Caryn Tobin, Ashley Meadow, Ethan Meadow, Makenzie Gates, Sawyer Whitney, and William Simmers; great grandchildren Mikayla and Charlie Gates; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Elizabeth A. Eaton, and his brother Warner Fisher.Funeral services for Durwood will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 12:00 at Brewster & Shea Funeral Service, 34 Park Place, Manchester Center, VT. A visiting hour will precede the service from 11-12. Interment will follow in Factory Point Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Durwood's memory to The Wounded Warriors Project or Manchester Health Services, c/o Brewster & Shea Funeral Service, Box 885, Manchester Center, VT 05255. Funeral services for Durwood will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 12:00 at Brewster & Shea Funeral Service, 34 Park Place, Manchester Center, VT. A visiting hour will precede the service from 11-12. Interment will follow in Factory Point Cemetery
