Edgar Rice

d. August 17, 2018

Ed Rice died peacefully at the Veterans Home in Bennington, on Friday, August 17, 2018. He was 93 years old. Ed was born in Brooklyn, NY, on November 23, 1924. After high school, at the age of 18, he joined the US Army and literally walked and fought his way across the face of Nazi occupied Europe as an infantryman. This experience changed his life. What he witnessed during the war would always remain an indelible part of his life narrative. After returning from the war, he earned his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. He started an electronic manufacturing company serving as its president until he retired in 1988. Although he became a mechanical engineer, his real love was for medicine. When he retired, Ed and his wife Marilyn moved to Vermont where they both lived a very active life. He gave up skiing when he was 90. As active outdoors people, who especially enjoyed skiing, Vermont suited them perfectly. Ed made many friends in Vermont. He loved his life in Vermont. He was gregarious, caring and loving throughout a long life. To meet him was to like him. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife, Marilyn, his son, Bill and his fiancee, Ruth Resnek, of West Palm Beach, FL, his daughter, Debra, and son-in-law Tony Anziano, of Corte Madeira, CA, three grandchildren: Alessandra, Max & Zachary and sister, Lillian Krapin of New Rochelle, NY. Memorial service will be held Saturday August 25, 2018, 1:00PM, at Brewster Funeral Service, 34 Park Place, Manchester Center. To honor his memory donations may be made to Bennington Project for Independence (BPI) 614 Harwood Rd, Bennington, VT 05201 or Second Chance Animal Shelter 6779 VT 7A Shaftsbury, VT 05262.
