Edith Isabel Hein

d. November 10, 2017

Edith Isabel Hein of Dorset, VT passed away on November 10, 2017 at the age of 101. She was born in Oshawa, Canada on September 6, 1916. In October 1942, she was recruited by the British government to move to Washington, D.C. where she helped organize convoys around the world during World War II. Due to severe housing shortages in Washington during the war, she roomed with several other women with whom she made lifelong friendships. Among those was her friend and future bridesmaid, Jean Anderson Turner. After the war, she worked in a succession of offices including the French Supply Legation. There she met M. Clyde Hein, a Captain in the Army Reserves. They married on March 13, 1951. Shortly afterward he was assigned to Chicago where they moved before returning to the Washington, D.C. area. They enjoyed spending summers with their children at their cottage on the South River before settling in Severna Park, MD in 1966. In 1980 they moved to Dorset, VT where they enjoyed their retirement and participated in a number of community organizations. She was particularly proud of the work her husband performed for the Dorset Nursing Association. She was a person of strong convictions and was sincerely interested in the welfare of others. She is survived by her two sons, Stephen Hein of York, PA and Donald Hein of Hyattsville, MD; granddaughters Natalie and Mary Rachel; and great granddaughter Leilani.
