Elizabeth "Betty" Allen Hovey

Betty Hovey of Brattleboro, VT died on May 28, 2016. Betty was born in Allentown, PA on November 20,1933 and was the daughter of Lester and Helen Allen. She graduated from Allentown High and pursued her love of books by achieving her bachelor's degree at Bethany College and her masters in Library Science at Columbia University.She met Frederick Hovey III in New York City and they were married on September 12, 1959. Dick predeceased her in 2010.Betty was longtime resident of Orange, CT before moving to Vermont, living both in Halifax and Wilmington before moving to Brattleboro. She had a sharp eye for antiques, especially decoys and always had a book in her hand wherever she went. Betty had a library of cook books and was a master in the kitchen. She spent countless hours in her garden and buying and reading her trove of gardening books.Betty leaves behind her three children, Jennifer (Jeffie) and husband, John, Stephanie (Stevie) and Theodore (Bear) and four grandchildren Charlie, Sally, Emma and Grayson.The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the staff at Pine Heights who skillfully and loving helped Betty over the past two years.Donations can be made to your local Alzheimer's Association c/o Covey Allen & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 215 Wilmington, VT 05363.Interment will be held in early summer. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday June 26 from Noon to 3:00 At the Milford Yacht Club in Milford, CT
