Ellen Blanche Hill Powers, 84 of East Lyme, CT passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday October 3, 2023 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London. The daughter of Burton G. and Grace (Sumner) Hill. She was born in Halifax on December 2, 1938. Ellen grew up in Halifax where she received her early education, she went on to high school graduating from Whitingham High School, Class of 1956, then attended The University of Vermont. Ellen married Leon “Bud” Powers, they resided in Connecticut for many years where she was the Bookkeeper/Accountant for the family business-Video Villa TV in Waterford for over 40 years. Ellen was a dedicated Christian and valued family first. She loved her family and she enjoyed scrap booking, calligraphy and other artistic projects. Ellen had the most beautiful handwriting, she also enjoyed plants and had a green thumb. Ellen was the most amazing cook and whenever you ate at Ellen and Bud’s house it was like eating at a five-star restaurant. She leaves her husband Leon “Bud” Powers, son Randall L. Powers, Randy’s step daughter Alyson Avonti Meunier, Nephew Stephen Hill Jr and wife Ginger, niece Melissa Hrabovsky, she had many cousins she adored including the trio- Laura Gerdes Cubeta, Diane King, and Blanche Thayer, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Stephen Hill Sr. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 19 at 11am at the Covey Allen & Shea Funeral Home in Wilmington with Reverend L. Douglas LaPlante officiating. Burial will follow in the Hill family lot in Center Cemetery in Marlboro and a memorial reception will follow the burial at the Halifax Community Hall. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5-8pm when the family will be present.
