Erwin (Ernie) Charles Phillips, Sr., 70 a resident of Kirby Hollow Road, passed away April 11, 2015 in the house that he built. Ernie was born in Dorset on June 17, 1944 the son of Charles S. Phillips and Bertha A. (Kelly) and attended local schools. Ernie grew up on the family farm in Dorset and served his country in the National Guard during the 1960Â’s. Ernie married Carol J. Prouty on October 3, 1964 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2014. Ernie held several jobs over the years. He began working on the McWayne Farm and also had a passion for working with wood, building houses and furniture. He logged the woods in Vermont for a time, worked for J.K. Adams and as a sub contractor in the local building industry until his retirement. Ernie was a true Vermonter who was also not afraid to speak his mind. He was an avid hunter and loved fishing and gardening and he raised a bumper potato crop in 2014. Ernie had an infectious sense of humor and was loved by all. He saw his first sunrise and his last sunset on the Kirby Hollow Road. Ernie is survived by his wife Carol of Dorset, children Erwin C. Phillips, Jr. of Manchester Center and Amanda Phillips of Winchendon, MA, siblings Mary Black and her husband Robert of Asheulot, NH, Chester Phillips of Dorset, Donald and Rosie Phillips of Danby and Barbara Hollister of Bennington, six grandchildren, one great grandchild, several nieces and nephews, in-laws Richard and Hazel Prouty of Tinmouth and Brad Prouty and his spouse Roy Horn of West Pawlet, his mother-in-law Gladys Prouty of Dorset and dear friends Joan and Kimberly Rizio of Manchester Center.
