Esmeralda Cabouli

Esmeralda Cabouli of Stratton, VT, passed away on August 9th, 2023 with her family by her side. She was 101 years young, recuperating from hip surgery at the time of her death. She was daughter of the late Luciana Morbelli and Domingo Penaloza and was born in Santa Fe, Argentina on February 18, 1922. As a young woman, Esmeralda studied at the Conservatorio Nacional de Musica in Buenos Aires, Argentina and was an accomplished ballet dancer and pianist, having performed at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. She married the late David Cabouli in 1942. Esmeralda is survived by her three children, Luciana, Paulina and Alicia, 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 pet parakeets. Esmeralda and her family emigrated from Argentina in 1957 and moved to New York City, where she returned to her passion in painting by studying at the Art Student League of New York. In the 1970’s, she and her husband moved to Stratton, VT. Esmeralda enjoyed skiing and became a member of the Southern Vermont Art Center in Manchester, VT where she exhibited her paintings at juried member shows. Esmeralda remained fiercely independent until her passing. She was deeply interested in the world around her, and was an avid reader and nature lover. She lived her life the way many of us only hope and dream to do. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
