Eugene Edward Moffitt, affectionately known as "Gramp", a resident of The Meadows, passed away October 8, 2016 at his home. Eugene was born in Wells, VT on November 15, 1920 the son of Edward and Hazel (Read) Moffitt and attended local schools. Eugene worked as a lumberjack for many years, owning and operating his own pulp mill, working with white birch. He also was a truck driver for the Dorr Co. and worked at the Hale Company for 5 years. Eugene enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, was an avid reader of Western novels, watching western movies and spending time with his family. Survivors include brothers Edward Henry Moffitt of Manchester and Darrell Moffitt of Wells, sister Alice Shattuck of North Carolina, great niece & care giver Kathy Moffitt of Manchester, extended family members Anna Keyes of Terryville, CT and Marion Burke of Whitehall, NY, many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Cyrus and sisters Mamie, Ruth and Mary. Funeral services for Eugene will be held Saturday October 15, 2016 at 12noon at Brewster-Shea Funeral Service 34 Park Place Manchester Center, VT. Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery in Dorset. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Saturday October 15, 2017 from 11-12pm, one hour prior to the service.
