Eugene V. Clark, 95, a resident of Crescent Boulevard, passed away Friday May 15, 2015 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation surrounded by his family. Gene was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 19, 1919 the son of Mills (Gomberg) and Marjorie (Gardner) Clark. He attended local school, graduated from Harvard in 1940 and Cornell Law School in 1948. Gene served in the Pacific Theatre as a Lieutenant in the Navy Seabees during WWII. He moved to Bennington in August of 1948 and started practicing law. He served as Municipal Court Judge from 1959-1962, Bennington County State Senator from 1962-1964 and was a member of the Vermont House of representatives in 1968. He practiced law until he was 80. Gene served as President of the Bennington County Bar Association and a member of the Vermont Board of Bar Examiners. He was a member of the Second Congregational Church for many years and served as their attorney and Treasurer. He was also a long-standing member of the Bennington Rotary Club, serving as their President in 1956-7. He was a member of Board of Directors of the Bennington Savings and Loan for many years and served on many other town boards. He was also a member of the Putman Memorial Hospital (now Southwestern Vermont ) Board of Trustees for many years, serving as their Chairman in 1972, and then as chairman of the Hospital Building Fund. He was instrumental in the 1970 capital campaign to support construction of the then new West Building. He married Elisabeth Kimball June 9, 1943 in Belmont, Massachusetts. Mrs. Clark passed away October 13, 2012. Gene is survived by his sons Kimball G. Clark (and Anne Jones) of Manlius, NY and Thomas Clark and his wife Joan of Reading, Massachusetts, grandchildren Melissa and Adam, eight nieces and three nephews. He is survived by his brother Gardner Clark and was preceded in death by his brother Crandall Clark. Funeral services for Eugene V. Clark will be held Saturday May 30, 2015 at 10:30am at the Second Congregational Church in Bennington. Rev. Mary Lee Clark will officiate. Interment will be private in the family lot in Parklawn Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
