Frances Butler

d. May 22, 2017

Frances K. Butler, a resident of Arlington passed away peacefully on Monday May 22, 2017 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, VT, just two days after her beloved husband Channey. She was born in Cambridge, NY on December 22, 1939 to Francis and Doris (Bain) Quackenbush. She was educated in schools in Shushan, NY and Cambridge, NY., and in life through hard work with her hands. A true love story, Channey and Frances were married in Manchester on October 26, 1957 and would celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this fall. They endured many hardships, but celebrated many more happy times together. They walked side by side, hand in hand in life and will be together for eternity. They were soulmates. Frances held many jobs to help support her family, including working at Mack Molding, Hale Company, and cleaning houses. She worked for over 20 years at the Aspen Motel in Manchester as a chambermaid. She was an incredible cook and loved to bake, especially all kinds of pies for Channey. She helped raise many of her nieces and nephews and adored her two grandchildren. At 4 feet 11 inches tall she used to say she was so short because she was born on the shortest day of the year, and all of the kids in the family used to compare their height to her as they were growing up. She enjoyed spending winters in Florida, baking, going to tag sales and flea markets, reading, and spending time with family and her grandchildren. She leaves her daughter and son-in-law Joy and Chris Ray of Middletown Springs, grandchildren Cady and Christopher, sisters Ruby Boynton and Charlotte Morris both of Arlington, brothers John Quackenbush of Greenwich, NY and Steve Quackenbush and his wife Cindy of Herkimer, NY, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her infant son Channey G. Butler III, her parents, and brothers Charles (Cubby) Quackenbush and Richard (Dick) Quackenbush. Services and a celebration of her life will be held at the same time as Channey's at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that Memorial gifts be made to either the Vermont Veteran's Home or Manchester Health Services in care of Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 528, Arlington, VT 05250. A time to celebrate the lives of Channey and Frances Butler of longtime residents of Arlington will be held on Sunday June 25 beginning at noon at the Harned Fowler V.F.W. Post 6471 in Manchester. The family invites everyone to come and honor the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Butler through memories, photos conversation and refreshments.
