Frances G. Wood

Frances G. Wood, 98, a resident of Bennington, Vermont passed away on November 5th, 2024 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, following a brief illness.

She was born in Peck, Michigan on March 13th, 1926 to the late Thomas N. and Gertrude (Grimes) Graham. Frances was raised in Michigan and graduated from Peck High School where she was the salutatorian of her class. She always said that she was a lifelong Michigander and said Michigan was the best state.

Frances married the love of her life, Leland V. Wood, on August 6th, 1949. With Leland she relocated to Pennsylvania before retiring to Bennington, VT in 1979. They were married for 57 years when he passed on March 20th, 2006.

Family was always Frances's main passion in life. She loved her family and her friends dearly. She enjoyed to spend her time researching family genealogy. History was her favorite subject, and she spent time working for the Merser Museum in Doylestown, PA and the Bennington Museum in Bennington, VT. She also loved to travel, especially with Leland. They travelled to Europe together, spending time in England, Ireland, Scotland and France. She lived a long and beautiful life.

Frances is survived by her three children; Linda Wood, of Bennington, VT, Mary Lou Fast (Bob), of Uniontown, PA and David L. Wood (Nancy), of Lewes, DE. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Robert Graham (Maryellen Graham), Katherine Piereson, Marjorie Thostenson and Thomas Graham. Frances was predeceased by the majority of her family, including her cousins.

A funeral service for Frances will be held on November 14th, 2024 at 2pm at the Second Congregational Church 115 Hillside Street Bennington, VT 05201. Burial will take place in the Wood family lot in Elk Township Cemetery, Peck, Michigan.
