Frank Wayne Brooks, 90, a resident of Wilmington, passed away at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington on Tuesday March 29, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Readsboro on April 24, 1925 to Evelyn Aubertine Moran and Wayne Brooks. He grew up and attended schools in Readsboro. He was a WWII Army veteran, a member of CO A 168th Engineers Combat BN, during which time he drove the Red Ball Express delivering medical supplies to the front lines. He married the former Elaine May on September, 14, 1946 in East Dover, VT by a Justice of the Peace. He started work at a very young age, of which he was very proud. He held many jobs some of which included setting pins at a bowling alley, New England Box Company, Cal's Service Station, E.J. Roberts and Haynes Brothers Construction. He is survived by his wife of 69 years Elaine Brooks, daughter Linda Bernard and husband Arnold of Wilmington, sons Douglas Brooks of Homasassa, FL, daughter Eilene Walnum and husband Jared of Homasassa, FL, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a 6th due in July, three half brothers Thomas, John and Charles Moran of North Adams. He was preceded in death by his half brothers Edward and Arthor Moran, a sister Evelyn (Sis) Moran, uncle Calvin Aubertine as well as other Aubertine aunts and uncles. He was well loved and respected by everyone. Funeral services for family and friends only will be held Saturday April 2, 2016 at 11am at Covey-Allen & Shea Funeral Home 44 East Main Street Wilmington, VT. Interment with military honors will follow in the family lot in Riverview Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
