Franklin R. Stevens, 64, a resident of Abbott Street passed away March 5, 2016 at his home. Franklin was born in St. Johnsbury, VT on March 15, 1951 the son of Wallace Sidney and Norma (Gray) Stevens. He attended Lyndon Institute for one year and graduated from Mt. Anthony Union High School. In his earlier years Franklin worked for Bennington Potters and the Bennington Paper Mill and then the Vermont Veterans Home for over sixteen years. Franklin was a veteran of the United States Army and a former member of American Legion Post 13 in Bennington and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Bennington. Franklin loved all kinds of sports especially baseball, college football and wrestling. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and a Tennessee Titan football fan. He often traveled North to see his family and cherished times spent with his family. Franklin is survived by his former wife Nancy Stevens of Bennington, daughters Mary Spencer and Nancy Shippee and her spouse Clifton Davis all of Bennington, brother Paul Stevens and his wife Dorothy of Cambridge, NY, sisters Joy Haddix and her husband Brad of Searcy, Arkansas, Joni Phillips of Cambridge, NY, Jeanie Partlow and her husband David of Portland, Oregon and Brenda Stanford and her husband Kevin of Oakman, Alabama, granddaughter Ashley Scarlett and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother David Stevens. Funeral services for Franklin will be held Friday March 11, 2016 at 11am at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, VT. Interment will follow in Hindsdillville Cemetery. A visiting hour at the funeral home will be held one hour prior to the service from 10-11am. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Franklin's memory may be made to the Vermont Veterans Home Activities Fund, c/o Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home P.O. Box 957 Bennington, VT 05201. Funeral services for Franklin will be held Friday March 11, 2016 at 11am at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, VT. Interment will follow in Hindsdillville Cemetery. A visiting hour at the funeral home will be held one hour prior to the service from 10-11am.
