Fred William "Bill" Thimm, 90, a resident of Equinox Village passed away June 1, 2016 at his home. Bill was born in Detroit, MI on January 8, 1926, the son and the youngest of the late Joseph L. and Ethel (Mullin) Thimm. He joined the Navy at seventeen and after basic training and service school he was assigned to the USS Duluth, CL87. The ship served with the third fleet during WWII in the battle for Okinawa and the fast carrier attacks on the Japanese home islands. After the war, Bill attended the University of Detroit graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy. He then attended Wayne State University, earning a B.S. Degree in K-12 education, received his Masters Degree in Curriculum Development and Administration and began his teaching career in the Detroit Public Schools. He then became Assistant Superintendent of the Center Line Public School District. He was also a volunteer Deputy for the Oakland County, MI Sheriff's Department. While at Center Line he met his wife and very best friend Gay. Upon Gay's retirement they moved to Arlington, VT. Survivors include their children, Sarah Dumont of Ashville, NC, Joseph Thimm of Novi, MI and Ami Sommariva (Byron) of Portland, OR, brother Joseph (Mary Ellen) of Salem, OR, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. At the request of the family funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in Bill's memory may be made to Manchester Health Services or the Manchester Rescue Squads or the Arlington Rescue Squads, c/o of Brewster-Shea Funeral service P.O.
