Frederick W. Hoyt Sr. 82 a resident of Old West Road in Arlington passed away on Saturday May 14, 2022 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. The son of Cyril and Rose (Willis) Hoyt , Fred was born in Bennington on October 26, 1939 . He grew up in Arlington graduating from Arlington Memorial High School in 1958 , he entered the US Air Force in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1965. Fred had worked in various capacities in construction with his brother Cyril , he later became an insurance agent for Prudential Insurance Company serving the greater Bennington County area for 30 years. Following his retirement from the insurance industry he worked at the Council on Aging where he assisted individuals with Medicare benefits. Fred was a longtime firefighter , first serving with the Manchester Fire Department where he became a Captain and then for many years at the Arlington Fire Department where he served in many leadership roles including two separate terms as Chief, he was also past President of the Arlington Fire Company. Being active in his community, he had also been a member of the American Legion in Arlington, VFW Post in Manchester and Arlington Lions Club. Fred loved hunting and fishing , bowling and golfing. He enjoyed times spent with family, especially camping. He leaves his wife Sheila (Wade) Hoyt whom he married on March 11, 1978, sons Frederick Hoyt Jr (Dawn) of Arlington and Travis Hess (Angela) of Arlington, daughters Adair Hoyt of Danby, Taryn Secoy (Paul Bacon) of North Carolina, Tessa MacDonald (John) of Shaftsbury and Tabatha Cross (Dave) of Arlington, brothers Theodore Hoyt of Readsboro, James (Brenda) Hoyt of Georgia, Duane (Corrine) Hoyt of West Virginia, Ralph Hoyt of Rupert, Thomas (Joan) Hoyt of North Bennington and Gene (Anna) Hoyt of Arlington, sisters Irene Burke of Bennington and Ann (Joe) Benini of Maine. His grandchildren Clay and Chase Hoyt , Derek , Dylan (Brittany) and Micaela Secoy, Riley (Machaila) , Regina and Sean MacDonald, Kierstyn and Kyle Hess , Bailey, Jaden and Brady Cross . Great grandchildren Makenzie ,Hailey and Peyton Marcewicz, Skylynn and Jaxson Secoy. He had many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. He was predecease by a brother Cyril Hoyt and grandchildren Matthew Marcewicz and Joshua Fratus . A time of visitation will be held on Friday afternoon May 20 from 3-5pm at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home in Arlington . A service of remembrance and sharing will take place at 5pm. He will be buried at a later date in St. Columban’s Cemetery.
