George Gordon

July 15, 1943 — January 3, 2024

George “Butch” Gordon, 80 years young, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side on January 3, 2024.  He was born to the late Robert Sr. and Marguerite (Kennedy) Gordon on July 15, 1943, in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

George spent his earliest years in Peekskill, New York then his family moved to Chester, Vermont during his elementary school and early employment years. After a few years George moved with his parents to Londonderry establishing a family homestead there.  Unfortunately, George’s mother, Marguerite, passed away while he was still in high school.  He remained in the homestead with his father and began employment with Readex, in Chester.  Later he started an Electrician Apprenticeship program with Crawford Electric working his way to becoming a Master Electrician, starting his lifelong career.  George began building his first home on the family property and shortly after married the love of his life, Elaine B. Rounds on April 29, 1967, in Weathersfield, Vermont.  They began their life together, raising their family, and caring for his Dad in the house he built.

George began his entrepreneurship by starting his own company, George W. Gordon Electric.  While raising a family and running his business with his wife, he also held the position of President with VECA (Vermont Electrical Contractors Association), serving two consecutive terms. He and his wife flourished as the owners of multiple rental properties.  He enjoyed learning more about Real Estate investing by being a member of ESRA (Empire State Realtors Association).

After the passing of his father, Robert Sr., George, and his family moved to Manchester.  He and his wife, Elaine, found a new passion in owning and operating Vermont Village Crafts, a small craft shop.

Through the years, George loved interacting with his family and friends.  Whether he was playing cards, bowling, camping, talking politics, or sharing stories, his keen sense of humor always shined through.  George’s true passion was his family.  He loved family trips to Florida or Ogunquit, Maine. He always found a way to incorporate his family in most everything he pursued; especially if it meant having his “personal assistants” by his side.  He was an admired teacher of hard work and life by his example. A husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, he will be greatly missed.

George is survived by his loving wife, Elaine, son Matthew Gordon, grandchildren; Glenn, Cory, and Brandon, daughter Vicki (Gordon) Timbers, son-in-law Ed Timbers III, grandson Kade, brother Robert Gordon Jr., his wife Janet, and their children.

Services and a Reception for George will be held at the First Baptist Church, 4895 Main Street, Manchester Center, Vermont on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 12:00pm.

If family and friends desire, donations in George’s memory may be made to the VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region in c/o Brewster-Shea Funeral Services PO Box 885 Manchester Center, VT  05255.
