Gladys M. Hoard, 98, a resident of Equinox Terrace Road, passed away April 19, 2015 at Rutland Regional Medical Center. Gladys was born in Manchester Depot on September 19, 1916 the daughter of Eugene J. and Bessie (Lyon) Bushee. She attended Manchester school, graduating from Burr & Burton Seminary in 1934. Gladys worked for the United States Post Office as a mail carrier for many years. She also worked at Orvis, the Manchester Chamber of Commerce and as a secretary for Burr & Burton for four years retiring in 1978. She enjoyed playing bingo, horse racing and car racing (dirt modified racing). She would follow her children every weekend and all summer long on the racing circuit. She enjoyed listening to country music, traveling, loved her cat and cherished times spent with her family. Gladys is survived by her children Frank Hoard and his wife Lula of Manchester Center, Robert Hoard of Granville, NY and Shirley Hosley and her husband David of Manchester Center, brother Clarence Bushee of Manchester, sisters Edith Kilburn of Manchester, Evelyn Larson of Bomoseen, Eunice Rice of Scotia, NY and Eva Lampron of Bennington, fifteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold C. Hoard who died in 1988, daughter Nina Dorr who died December 18, 2004, brother Richard Bushee and sister Marjorie Bushee.At the request of the family funeral services and interment will be private. There are no visiting hours. If friends desire, memorial gifts in memory of Gladys may be made to the Burr & Burton Academy Athletic Department, c/o of Brewster & Shea Funeral Service P.O Box 885 Manchester Center, Vermont 05255.
