Gladys M. Prouty

Gladys M. Prouty, 92, a resident of Kirby Hollow Road, passed away Tuesday February 19, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. Gladys was born in Dorset on August 3, 1926 the daughter of the late Owen Burke, Sr. and Iona Reed. She attended Dorset schools Burr & Burton Seminary. Gladys loved her home and flower gardening. She enjoyed cooking, collecting antiques especially anything to do with pigs, attending tag sales and flea markets, her cats and watching wrestling and Little House on the Prairie. She was an avid reader and cherished times spent with her family. Gladys is survived by her children Richard Prouty and his wife Hazel of Dorset, Bradford Prouty and his partner Leroy of West Pawlet and Carol Phillips of Dorset, sisters Emily Slade of Manchester and Beverley Bush and her husband Tom also of Manchester, six grandchildren 12 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Merwin Prouty whom she married June 23, 1945. Mr. Prouty died February 10, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Claude Burke, Sr. and Owen Burke, Jr., her sister Hazel Tarbell and son-in-law Erwin Phillips, Sr. At he request of the family funeral services will be private.
